School Council Highlights – 2025–2026
Our School Council has had a busy and productive year, working hard to make our school an even better place for everyone.
Autumn Term
In October, the children began by sharing what they value most about Millbrook. They also explored how we can support others by fundraising for charities at local, national, and international levels. A shortlist of charities was created, and all classes had the opportunity to vote for their favourites.
The council also started an Environmental Review, looking closely at our school grounds and how we can improve our environmental impact.
Later in October, the upper school council members learned about the UK Parliament as part of Parliament Week. They found out about our local MP, Emma Reynolds, and wrote thoughtful questions about her role. Emma kindly replied with a video message, which was shared with the whole school in assembly—an exciting way to bring learning to life!
In November, the School Council completed their Environmental Review and identified three key focus areas for the year:
They worked collaboratively to suggest practical eco-friendly actions and wrote to Mr Newton to request support in achieving their goals and working towards the prestigious Eco Schools Green Flag Award.
Spring Term
In January, the council took part in the RSPB Big Birdwatch, helping to monitor and learn more about our local wildlife.
In February, after receiving support from school leaders, the children selected three eco-actions to focus on:
Summer Term
In April, the School Council created a meaningful Eco-Code inspired by our ASPIRE values. This encourages everyone in our school community to:
A Positive Impact
The School Council has shown fantastic teamwork, responsibility, and enthusiasm throughout the year. Their ideas and actions are already helping to make our school greener, kinder, and more community-focused. We are very proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing their plans continue to grow!
